“Take it easy Jacob I’m not plastic. You could crush Me!” shouts Patrick to his five-year-old brother. It is strange for Patrick to be looking up at his colossal, little brother. When before the Shrinking Virus affected him, he was always gazing down at his brother and Jacob looking up at him. And to be trapped in his hand when only a week before he had Jacob’s tiny hand in his as they crossed the street. Patrick finds Jacob tries to be careful but sometimes Patrick thinks Jacob sees him as a new toy or pet. When Jacob gets into his footed pajamas Jacob always puts him into his pocket. Other times he sleeps on Jacob’s pillow. And they have at times talks. Once when a thunderstorm was blazing and scaring Jacob Patrick told him to get his flashlight. When Jacob did, they went under the covers and Patrick told all sorts of stories to help Jacob get back to sleep. Patrick was always grateful for those times he could be the big brother again.
